When I’m not writing, I love playing TTRPGs with friends and fellow writers and sometimes meeting new people through playing a game together! I even wrote my M.A. thesis at the University of Oregon on TTRPGs back when I was an academic and published a version of a chapter from that thesis at the Journal for Transformative Works and Cultures.
Currently, I co-host Speculate!, an actual play show with SF/F writers and professionals. We play one-shots and campaigns, both livestreamed in video and serialized in podcast form. I am also a co-founder of Bag of Giving, a charity actual play series raising funds for various charities such as MaxOttawa, the Maryland Food Bank, Reach Out Response Network, and others.
Between these two projects, I’ve had the chance to play and run a lot of cool games over the past few years
I’ve also started working as a professional GM at StartPlaying.Games. Find (and hire) me here.
In addition to playing and GMing, I’m developing a Forged in the Dark rpg based on my Stabby Award-finalist Genrenauts series. Follow the development process over on Patreon.
If you run an actual play show and are looking for a player or guest GM, please feel free to drop me a line at m(nospaceorparens)underwood@gmail.com.
