About Geekomancy:

Ree Reyes’ life was easier when she just had to worry about scraping together tips from her gig as a barista-and-comicshop slave wage in the port city of Pearson to pursue her ambitions as a screenwriter.

When a scruffy-looking guy storms into the shop looking for a comic like his life depends on it, Ree writes it off as just another day in the land of the geeks.

Until a gigantic ‘BOOM!’ echoes from the alley a minute later, and Ree follows the rabbit hole into Pearson’s magical flip-side.  Here, astral cowboy hackers fight trolls, rubber-suited werewolves and Elegant Gothic Lolita fate witches by channeling genre tropes and wielding nostalgia-powered props.

Ree joins Eastwood (aka scruffy guy), investigating a mysterious string of teen suicides as she tries to avoid imploding after her own drag-your-heart-through-jagged-glass breakup.  But as she digs deeper, Ree discovers Eastwood may not be the knight-in-cardboard-armor she thought.  Will Ree be able to stop the suicides, save Eastwood from himself and keep her job?

Praise for Geekomancy:

Geekomancy is a glorious blender of genres, like a sweet candy shell filled with pop culture and high heroism. Absolutely stellar.
- Seanan McGuire, NYT-bestselling author of the October Daye and InCyrptid series

“If Buffy hooked up with Doctor Who while on board the Serenity, this book would be their lovechild. In other words, Geekomancy is full of epic win.”
- Marie Lu, author of the Legend trilogy

“Geeks rejoice! This is your new favorite book. A frakking clever, funny, engaging novel that toes a surprisingly perfect line between meta and unabashedly delightful storytelling. There is a reference for everyone and even the unwashed masses of non-geeks can enjoy it and hopefully learn a thing or two about being awesome.”
Leanna Renee Hieber, award winning, nationally bestselling author
“Underwood’s Geek Fu is strong-and he’s not afraid to use it. Geekomancy is fun, fresh and full of geek culture references that will have you LOLing to the very last page. This book is one hundred percent pure awesomesauce and totally FTW.”

- Mari Mancusi, award winning author of The Blood Coven Vampire series

“Modern, sleek, and whip-smart, Geekomancy is a wonderful blend of geek and pop culture — you’ll find yourself grinning knowingly at least every other page. And Ree is the perfect protagonist to navigate Geekomancy’s world — geek enough to hold her own, yet human enough for me to be deeply invested in her struggles. I can’t wait to read the next one!”
- Cassie Alexander, author of Nightshifted and Moonshifted

“If you took wish-fulfillment, ground it to a powder, and shot twice the recommended dosage into your eye socket, the result would be a lot like Geekomancy.  I want to live in this world, where all the books and shows and movies and games I love are a source of power, not only in psychological terms — which they already are — but practical, villain-pounding ones.”
- Marie Brennan, award winning author of the Onyx Court series and the forthcoming A Natural History of Dragons

That cover image. I can’t help feeling she looked better before the hasty addition of bangs. I do hope that wasn’t your idea?

Enjoyed the book though. Bought it from amazon.co.uk after reading the fist two chapters on tor.com

      Dear Mike,

Thanks for coming by to say hello! I’m very happy with the cover overall, though I don’t imagine Ree in my head as having bangs. So glad you enjoyed the novel, and I hope you’ll keep coming to the site.

Hey there! I just picked up your book a few weeks ago, and I blasted through the whole thing in just a few hours – I couldn’t put it down! I absolutely fell in love with the characters and the magic and the lore, and as a former “girl working at a comic book shop” myself, I totally loved Ree as a main character! I just wanted to let you know that it was awesome, and I loved it, and I drew a picture because I was that tickled over the book: http://fav.me/d5inr79

Thank you so much for writing it!

      Dear Sarah,

I am totally blown away by this awesome piece! I’m honored and humbled that you’d be inspired to make art based on the novel, and at your awesome attention to detail (the quilted con-shirt armor is especially magnificent).

I would love your blessing to brag to the world about how amazing it is, and to post the piece (with oodles of attribution) on my blog.

      Many thanks,
      Mike

I would absolutely love it if you posted it on your blog! And it was the details of the story that really drew me into the book in the first place, so I felt like I had to try and do it justice by tossing all those details into the picture as well. :) I’m really glad you like it, thanks so much!
